A Cell is an element or series of elements that can be named, defined as a group, stored in a cell library, and recalled as a group for placement. MicroStation cells are provided in the cell library, pipeline.cel. Cells are always placed at a scale factor relative to the drawing scale. Cells have been created for a base scale of 1"=1'. If a drawing has a plot scale of 1”=20’, the active scale for the cell should be AS=20. For 1"=40' scale drawings, the active scale should be AS=40.
Arrow Heads
To ensure that the finished drawings will have a consistent appearance, and will be easily modified by all CAD Drafters, the line terminators (arrow heads) should be placed on the correct levels as specified in the level application list.
Line terminators may be placed using one of the following methods.
The MicroStation user defined line style, "Arrow-Small", is a solid line that terminates with an arrow head. Set the line style scale factor as is appropriate for the plot scale.
The cell "arrows" may be set as a line terminator (LT=ARROWS) and placed at the end of a leader line using the PLACE TERMINATOR command. The terminator scale factor (TS=) is always the same as the active scale factor.
MicroStation's automatic dimensioning may be used to place leader lines and dimension lines. Use the dimensioning settings to set the line terminator symbol to equal the cell "ARROWS".
Dropping Cells
The term "dropping cells" means converting the symbol to it's simple elements or components. A dropped cell can not be converted back into a cell. Cells should never be dropped. There are a few exceptions to this rule. Some cells, such as the Drawing Border, are used as a starting point for creation of the final border. Drawing Border cells may be dropped in order to make project specific changes.
Creating New Cells
The consultant shall use cells from the District's cell libraries for all drawings. If any other symbols are needed, please first get approval from the District CAD Contact. If approval is given for new cells, the consultant shall provide a cell library and documentation for each cell that was created. The new cells shall not be added to an existing District cell library. Instead, they should be in a separate library that only contains the new cells that were created for the project.
