Overview of Drafting Standards

Drafting Standards are used to provide a uniform appearance to drawings. Consistent use of drafting standards throughout a set of drawings, and from one project to another, makes the drawings easier to read and understand. The District has established drafting standards to govern the appearance of its drawings. These drafting standards should be used in combination with the CAD standards outlined in this document.

The term "Drafting Standards" refers to the way items are placed on drawings. It may refer to line styles or line weights, abbreviations, etc. The topics covered in this chapter are not unique to the CAD system requirements, but would apply to drawings produced by any CAD system or to manually drafted drawings. Unlike many of the CAD standards, these specific standards are always visible on the hard copy plots.
